A couple of days ago i was having quite the interesting psychological discussion with an aquantance of mine ((well technically i was doing the talking and he was just mindlessly agreeing with everything i said, but that's not the point here)) and it lead me to a rather interesting line of thought. I pondered on the issue for a few days... and now I'm just plain curious to see what other peoples views and feelings are about the matter.
Basically we were discussing the difference between love and hate... and which is the stronger and better emotion to have and rely on. It's kinda hard to explain really... so maybe i should just list a couple of the random thoughts and conclusions that we reached and then everyone can go from there.
Love
Love is strong in it's own little way. It's like a drug actually... the more love you are shown in your life the more you end up needing it.
I mean put a person in a nice, caring, loving, sheltered environment and then one day suddenly strip that all away from them and what are you left with? At best the person suffers unmentionable emotional and mental angst... and worst they can't handle it and kill themself or others. Especially with kids... have them grow up for 6 years in a loving, caring family and then have that all stripped away to be replaced with abuse and neglect... and it really screws with the kid. A 12 year old kid just doesn't know how to cope when they go to a parent who once upon a time loved them and sob their heart out telling the parent that they just wish they were dead just to have the parent heartlessly turn around and go "I'm too busy now to talk to you".
So yes, sure to some love may be powerful enough to conquer all or some other garbage like that. However just like a drug if you suddenly take it away from a person they have tonnes of trouble coping. Therefore love shouldn't be depended on.
I do admit though that love is needed to sustain life and to keep the human race from dying out.
Hate
Hate tends to be a far more permanent emotion then love. Not only can it comfort and soothe... it can pick a person up from the deepest depths of despair and change them into a much stronger, powerful and deadly person. It'll give them a reason to keep on fighting when nothing else can/will. Hate will light a fire in a persons eyes and heart... giving them a dark passion for life once more.
Hate will push a person into accomplishing their goals, ambitions and dreams no matter if they have to destroy everything around them in the process. The sheer desire to obliviate any and all opponents is what will drive a person into putting 150% into everything they do.
Anyways that's probably enough out of me for now. Any thoughts, feelings and opinions you wish to add... or points anybody wishes to argue?
